Hull City Sack Arveladze

Shota Arveladze became the latest managerial casualty in the Championship, as Hull City decide to part ways hours before hosting Luton Town.

There are better ways to prepare for a fixture than sacking a manager on the day of the match. However, Hull City’s owners thought it was the right thing to do after it became clear Arveladze was not on the same page.

A Week of Frustration

During the international break, City’s owners held a series of meetings with Arveladze. The Georgian signed a two-and-a-half-year deal in January but lasted just eight months, with the chairman, Acun Ilicali, saying: “It became clear our views weren’t aligned.”

“During the international break, we had a number of meetings with Shota to discuss the direction of the team and the future of the club,” said Ilicali. “As these meetings went on, it became clear our views weren’t aligned so we have made the decision to part ways. Shota and Peter leave with our thanks, greatest respect and fond wishes for the future.”

An International break is usually a key time for a manager to really put their ideas across in training, to those who have not been called up to represent their respective countries.

Andy Dawson will take charge of the side for this evening’s game against Luton.

Another One Bites the Dust

Arveladze becomes the third managerial sacking in the Championship in little over two weeks. He follows Rob Edwards from Watford and Danny Schofield from Huddersfield to be shown the door.

Arveladze guided City to 19th last season, however, the Tigers sit 20th and a change was seen to be the correct decision for all parties involved.

It remains to be seen who the new manager will be, though the early favourite with the bookies is Sergen Yalçin. He has been out of work since departing Besiktas last year.
